Tri Marine Welcomes New Vessel to its Fleet

Tri Marine Welcomes a New State-of-the-Art Purse Seiner to its Fleet

Taiwan, June 5th – Tri Marine, one of the world’s largest tuna suppliers and part of the Food & Tri Marine newly integrated Business Unit of Bolton, is proud to announce the groundbreaking launch of the Solomon Diamond, the sixth vessel in its Solomon Islands flagged fleet, National Fisheries Developments.

The Solomon Diamond represents a next-generation purse seiner that combines innovation, technological advancement, and a strong commitment to sustainability. This cutting-edge fishing vessel, setting a new standard in the tuna fishing industry, is not only a valuable addition to Bolton Food & Tri Marine fleet, but also a symbol of Tri Marine’s commitment to the future.

The planning for the Solomon Diamond commenced in 2020, and construction began in 2022. A symbolic launch ceremony took place on May 25, 2024, in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, with attendees including representatives from Bolton.

“The Solomon Diamond is a beacon of innovation and sustainability, charting a new course for the future of tuna fishing in the Solomons and marking a significant milestone for Bolton Food and Tri Marine,” said Guy Noordink, Bolton Board Member, during the ceremony.

The Solomon Diamond has been made possible thanks to the invaluable efforts of the Tri Marine’s team and partners: CINTRANAVAL-DEFCAR, assigned with the design of the vessel; Fu Long Marine, responsible for constructing it to the highest standards; and the Maritime Research Institute of the Netherlands (MARIN), entrusted with optimizing the design for efficiency and minimal environmental impact. Continued support of the Solomon Islands government, particularly the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, has been instrumental in this endeavor.

Key sustainability & technical characteristics of the Solomon Diamond include classified under Bureau Veritas (BV), ensuring the highest standards of sustainability and compliance; equipped with an automated fish loading system, reduces loading time by -30% and unloading time by -65%, bringing it to just one day; non-conventional propeller, enhancing efficiency with significant fuel savings; compact refrigeration system, keeping tuna below -18ºc for increased food safety; and living quarters meeting the highest international standards, providing comfort and safety for the 22 crew members on board.

The Solomon Diamond will add to Tri Marine’s Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified tuna supply, supporting its fishing and processing operations in the Solomon Islands. The tuna caught will be processed at SolTuna, one of Bolton Food & Tri Marine’s processing plants.

The Solomon Diamond is expected to start fishing by the end of this year in the Main Group Archipelago out of Noro, Solomon Islands.
