TRI MARINE ACQUIRES PAITA PLANT FROM AUSTRAL

For Release January 14, 2014.

LIMA— Today Tri Marine agreed to acquire 100% of the shares of Conservera de las Americas from Austral.  Conservera de las Americas owns and operates the tuna and pelagics processing plant in Paita, Peru.

The large scale plant in Paita produces tuna and pelagic, e.g., anchoveta and mackerel, products for the Peruvian and international markets.  The plant’s production capacity will complement Tri Marine’s existing network of owned and contract tuna and pelagics processing plants and it will enable Tri Marine to locally process the pelagic and tuna resources available in Peru, thereby creating jobs and supporting the local economy.

“Tri Marine is pleased to return to Peru through the acquisition of Conservera de las Americas.  We were fortunate to have been shareholders in Austral a few years ago when the company experienced rapid growth and success.  Austral’s strategy to concentrate their operations more towards the center of the country has given us a welcome opportunity to again participate in an important way in the Peruvian fisheries industry,” said Renato Curto, CEO of Tri Marine.

He continued. “Our focus is on the human consumption side of the business. The Paita plant will be dedicated to the production of high quality products destined to our preferred customers in the countries where we currently operate, as well as in the domestic market in Peru.   The transaction has been structured in a way that the production at the plant will not suffer any major interruptions.  The workforce of Conservera de las Americas is well trained and, with the help of our friends at Austral, we expect to have a very smooth transition”.

Tri Marine is known for processing fish at or near the source and working closely with fishery resource owners to maximize the effectiveness of fishery management and the economic value created locally from the country’s fish resources.
